How to host the best Diwali Party ever?

We all have heard the quote “Live in the moment” but nobody ever understood its core. The tragic moments we came across during the pandemic in the last two years, taught us how important it is to spend time with your loved ones & yourself. Sadly, the pandemic educated us about the true meaning of the quote. Whether it is about prioritizing your mental health, giving importance to family, spending time with friends, or celebrating the joys of life as they come.
Since we’ll be enjoying a peaceful Diwali this year, why not celebrate it with family, friends, and loved ones? Yes, we are talking about hosting a small yet pleasant Diwali party where we can pray, have fun, enjoy delightful food, shake a little, or play some interesting games. Here are a few ways to host the best Diwali party.
FINALIZE THE GUEST LIST AND MENU
Though small get-togethers and parties are a way to connect and interact with people, you can choose to invite everyone or invite those who already know each other beforehand. It can remove the awkwardness of breaking the ice. Once you have the invites ready make sure to finalize the menu. You may already know what your invites prefer but it is safe to include vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Appetizers, sizzlers, mocktails, etc. could be added to the list. If there are children, make sure you include soft drinks as well.
ARRANGE THE DECOR
It is the decor that sets the mood for the party, keep in mind that your decor is light-hearted, welcoming, full of lights & colors, etc. You may set a theme for the party and make arrangements accordingly. For instance, colors of a rainbow and pre-decide who's wearing what (it is best to avoid clashes), crackers in the house (where everyone can dress as a firecracker), all men can dress as  Lord Rama and women can dress like Goddess Sita, etc.
MAKE IT HAPPY FOR EVERYONE
Diwali is a national festival and everyone must celebrate it with the family, free the house helps and let them celebrate Diwali with their precious ones. Yes, we wouldn't want you to wash the dishes all by yourself the next day; therefore, purchase reusable dishes to serve food. That way we can make Diwali eco-friendly for the environment as well. Arrange a buffet in line with adequate space for people to stand and enjoy the party scenes.
PREPARE DANCE OFFS
No party is complete without dance! But why not do it a little differently this time? Rather than randomly dancing to the music, set couples/families dance-offs where each couple/family will prepare a dance and will compete with another family. The winning couple/family will be labeled as the best dancing family. You can also keep winning and consolation gifts for each family for being supportive.
WHO NEEDS CHAIRS?
Sitting on a chair for a long time is certainly not comfortable. Remove chairs and arrange floor seating arrangements for everyone to enjoy comfortably. Keep chairs handy too, in case someone has issues sitting down.
KEEP SPACE FOR ENTERTAINMENT
Dumb Charades is probably the most common game among parties, but you can still make it interesting. Swap each family member/couple, it will help in not only bonding but also a test of how well you understand your friends. You may also play UNO, scrabble, or even a scavenger hunt (Only invitees can play), whisper, follow the directions, pass the ball, truth or dare, etc.
KEEP A SEPARATE AREA FOR KIDS (if any)
If the invitees also have children, ensure they don’t feel left out. Plan some games for children as well, and keep a rangoli competition for kids where they can draw & color with plastic crayons. You can also keep a separate play area for kids where they can play with toys, and watch animated movies like Moana, the Croods, Pinnochio, the Lion King, or whichever movie they like.
MAKE THE EVENING MEMORABLE
Anyone can host a Diwali party but it is always about gestures. Make sure you greet each and every guest on their arrival as well as on departure. Ensure that everyone is engaged in the activities or else it may be a turn-off for everyone else. Yes, it is your group and there are no formalities but it is always warm to ensure that they have eaten well and enjoyed the party. Also, while departing the guests, hand them over a small yet memorable gift as a souvenir for this party.

We really hope and wish that these tips are somewhat helpful, and have a safe, happy, loud, and bright  Diwali.
